The Very Hungry Caterpillar

A quilt project by Karen Walden - Inspired by Eric Carle’s book The Very Hungry Caterpillar in partnership with Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery

A metamorphosis of the world’s favourite caterpillar

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of one of the world’s most celebrated children’s books, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Bundaberg artist Karen Walden has created a textile project inspired by Eric Carle’s book. Karen has recreated the 1969 publication using a mixture of hand dyed fabrics, machine appliqué, paints and pencils to make ten colourful pages.

This family exhibition allows its viewers to walk along the pages of this lovable tale of metamorphosis, interacting with the story in a fusion of craft and literature. All 225 words are stitched alongside the much-loved illustrations as the caterpillar eats his way to becoming a butterfly.
