My Home, My History
Dr Suzanne Goopy, David Lloyd, Angela Blakely & Suzanne Howard
A cultural fusion illustrated in the little details of domestic life
My Home My History (Blakely/Lloyd and Goopy) is a documentary photographic collection that tells the story of a generation of Italians who left their homeland after the heartache of WWII to start a new life in Australia. The photographs illustrate a sense of loyalty to their past, while wholeheartedly embracing their future. The images are simple and honest, narrating history, culture, identity and attitude of Italo-Australian domestic life.
In the documentary film Mangiare Bene [To Eat Well] (Goopy and Howard) viewers are transported into a world where the food and rituals continue to play a major role in Italo-Australian domestic life.
Supported by Griffith University as part of the university's special research initiative Creative for Life, which involved images and work, photo documentary, anthropology, researchers and participants.
