Karen Walden
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
First inspired by her grandmother, Bundaberg artist and mother Karen Walden says she has ‘always loved sewing’. During her exploration of textile materials about 15 years ago Ms Walden found a passion for quilting as she could use a diversity of styles and techniques, as well as express her love of colour. She has also quilted popular Australian band The Whitlams.
Ms Walden’s favourite childhood book, and a favourite of her children, is The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. In her project The Very Hungry Caterpillar, she was able to combine her love of this book with her passion for textiles to create an exhibition that excites the imagination for all.
